Two sets of rings in the Los Angeles Kings’ home arena come from the NHL team’s Stanley Cup championship wins in 2012 and 2014. As of this week, the rest of the ringing will be coming from the team’s new communications system, powered by Ottawa-based Mitel.
With fewer bad hockey jokes than Techopia proudly provides, Mitel announced Tuesday it would underpin the L.A. Kings’ new cloud-based communications services through a platform from Frontier Communications. The Frontier AnyWare system gives the NHL franchise’s sales team access to analytics, integrates with existing CRMs and provides a mobile client for coaches, scouts and management to communicate both at home and away from the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.
“High-performance organizations like the Kings are savvy about how they incorporate technology into their operations and recognize that the right communications and collaboration solution can yield real competitive advantages,” said Todd Abbott, Mitel’s executive vice-president of global sales and services, in a statement.

Canada’s judge shortage doesn’t have to negatively impact your family – or your business
Arbitration has always been a critical part of Canada’s legal system, but lately it has been getting more attention due to the judge shortage.
This isn’t the first play at major league sports for Ottawa’s Mitel, which was acquired last year by a private equity firm in a $2-billion deal. Last year the decades-old firm announced it would power on-field communications systems for all 30 teams in Major League Baseball. In addition to unifying the clubs’ previously independent communications systems under one roof, the deal gave MLB an ear on calls made during the game to ensure teams weren’t running afoul of rules.
The company has also been striking deals across the pond: Liverpool FC signed Mitel to a multi-year agreement last November.
