“The eBay channel has the potential to introduce our merchants to eBay’s millions of buyers, exposing merchants to a massive number of new sales opportunities,” said Satish Kanwar, Shopify’s vice-president of product, in a statement.
The Ottawa-based e-commerce giant has significantly expanded the potential reach of its merchants, signing deals that enable them to sell through Amazon Marketplace and Buzzfeed. That’s in addition to other sales channels that include Facebook, Pinterest and Messenger.
The new deal with eBay allows Shopify merchants to sync inventory information, such as product descriptions, as well as prices and quantities from Shopify to eBay.
Like its Buzzfeed partnership, the eBay sales channel will only be available for Shopify merchants selling in American currency in the United States.
Speaking to OBJ about the Buzzfeed agreement last month, Shopify said the critical mass of U.S. merchants meant it made the most sense to launch the program south of the border.
