A local boutique developer and project management firm is laying the groundwork for a new budget hotel just north of the Canadian Tire Centre.
City planning documents show Glebe-based Activar has filed a site plan application for a four-storey, 108-unit Microtel hotel at 340 Huntmar Dr., just north of Highway 417 across from the Tanger Ottawa Outlet Centre.
The planned hospitality property is within a commercial area of Minto’s Arcadia subdivision and would also include a restaurant and pool.

According to the company’s website, Activar is responsible for site selection, feasibility analysis, project management, financing, development and construction of Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Ontario and Québec.
Activar describes the chain as “the only prototypical, all-new construction brand in the economy segment” and says it “yields higher operating margins and overall investment returns to hotel owners.”
It previously managed the development of a Microtel in Casselman, east of Ottawa, which opened in June 2015.
There are more than 330 Microtel operating or under construction around the world, according to the hotel chain.
