National triathlon championships coming to Ottawa in 2016, 2017

Another major sporting event is coming to the capital as Triathlon Canada announced Thursday its national championships will be held in Ottawa in 2016 and 2017.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson credited the city’s Bid More, Win More, Host More program for attracting this latest competition.

“That strategy has been incredibly successful in positioning Ottawa as the ideal host city, enhancing our reputation on the world stage and boosting our local economy,” Mr. Watson said in a statement.

Dow’s Lake Pavilion will be the host venue for the championships, which will feature 10 races over two days.

The event is set to take place on July 23-24 this year and will feature different brackets like the Canadian Standard Distance Triathlon Championships and the Kid of Steel Triathlons aimed at youth from under 5 to under 13.

“I can think of no better place to showcase our national championships than in the heart of Canada’s capital city,” Triathlon Canada CEO Tim Wilson said in a statement.
