The Kanata North Business Association is expanding its exhibitor space for the third annual Discover Technata event next week.

Last year’s event drew a crowd of more than 60 exhibitors and hundreds of job seekers. This year’s expo, returning to Kanata’s Brookstreet Hotel, will feature more than 70 exhibitors and is expected to be a sellout, organizers say. Attendees can expect to see a combination of tech giants and startups sharing the exhibition space.

Dubbed a “tech expo and talent hunt,” the event aims to connect those seeking employment in the tech industry, as well as general business sectors, with leaders and employers from local businesses.

Kanata North, Canada’s largest tech park, is home to more than 500 companies that include software, biotech, telecom and other sub-sectors. The area’s tech sector “continues to thrive and experience growth,” says Deborah Lovegrove, marketing and events lead for the business association.

Last year’s event put that some of that tech on display, with Neptec bringing its robotic rover and BlackBerry QNX showing off an autonomous driving concept car.

According to analysts at Expert Market, 71 per cent of respondents in their survey would set up their new tech business in Ottawa. The respondents ranked quality of living, high salary averages, the number of available tech jobs in the city and tech diversity as reasons for their choices.

Job seekers can register now for the free show, held at the Brookstreet on March 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
