A local connected car company is taking its Kanata-made tech to Detroit, establishing a new office in what it calls the “epicentre” of automotive growth.

Irdeto develops software in Kanata to contain cybersecurity breaches wherever they occur – an especially worrisome threat when it comes to connected cars.

With a new Michigan office in Pontiac, just outside of Detroit, the firm is embedding itself among the automotive industry’s biggest American car companies.

Five people will staff the new outpost to start, with a press release noting plans to invest heavily in “people, innovation and partnerships.” The office will focus on serving OEMs, automotive suppliers and fleet operators.

The firm’s Kanata operations began in 1997 with the founding of cybersecurity firm Cloakware before Dutch firm Irdeto acquired the company a decade later.
