The federal government has put out a call to any company with a few good dogs that can keep Canadian Geese at the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa under control.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada recently put out a tender looking for dogs to scare geese away from the 300-some hectares of farmland used for research in the National Capital Region. The tender, open for bids until May 6, states the provider will need to conduct daily patrols to control the geese population surrounding the urban farm for a five-week spring period and 75-day summer/fall period.
Though the CEF has made use of border collies to keep geese away from the valuable crops in the past, the City of Stratford last week started using both dogs and drones to keep birds from nesting along the Avon River.

Interested bidders must have at least three years of experience in goose control and have a minimum of two dogs on-site during all patrols, though some periods will require extra pup support.
The tender’s exact value will be determined following the contract award.
