CHEO Gala: An elegant evening in support of children and youth

The annual gala at the Fairmont Château Laurier will help fund the $220-million Kids These Days campaign

This year’s CHEO Gala will be a celebration of the resilience and courage of children and youth, the power of community, and a historic transformation of pediatric healthcare in our region.

The gala, scheduled for Dec. 10, is presented by TD Bank. This signature event supports Kids These Days, an unprecedented $220-million campaign to help CHEO adapt to meet the growing and increasingly complex needs of children and youth.

Guests will enjoy a gourmet dinner, entertainment, socializing and a chance to bid on exclusive auction items. They will also have the chance to hear from a young patient about the difference CHEO has made for them.

The black-tie event takes place at the luxurious Fairmont Château Laurier, which will be transformed for the holiday season into a wonderland of community-decorated trees through the annual Trees of Hope event.

A tradition of community leadership

People have gathered to share food, drink and laughter in support of CHEO since the 1960s, when parents and grandparents held coffee parties to raise funds and to demonstrate their support for a children’s hospital in Ottawa.

Today, the world-class care and research at CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute, and Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice is made possible thanks to the generosity of donors and sponsors.

“This is a chance for our community to gather and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and youth,” says CHEO Foundation President and CEO Steve Read. “It’s always inspiring to look around the room at the CHEO Gala and see the compassion in the faces of those who have come out to lend their support to this important cause.”

An historic campaign to reimagine pediatric healthcare

The Kids These Days campaign reminds us that the world is different for today’s children and youth:

CHEO has seen increased demand for mental health services and treatments for eating disorders over the past several years.

More children today live with rare diseases and complex care needs.

CHEO was built more than 50 years ago to accommodate the needs of children in a very different world, and a much less populous region.

Kids today wait far too long for diagnosis, surgery and emergency care – often beyond what’s medically recommended. CHEO is growing and changing to meet those needs for the families it serves across Ontario, western Quebec and Nunavut.

A flagship component of CHEO’s ambitious redevelopment is the new Integrated Treatment Centre (ITC). By breaking barriers between specialties, the ITC will increase CHEO’s capacity to deliver more connected and integrated care.

Making a long-standing vision a reality

As any visitor to the CHEO campus can see from progress on the construction site, this long-standing vision is now becoming a reality for children, youth and families. CHEO is reimagining care for kids these days, and for generations to come.

The gala, made possible thanks to a dedicated volunteer committee, is a chance to raise awareness about this transformation of pediatric healthcare. The funds raised will directly support CHEO’s redevelopment. Tickets for a table of 10 cost $4,500 and single tickets cost $450.
