A modern mansion at Dow’s Lake has sold for $5 million, making it Ottawa’s highest-priced luxury home sale over the past 12-month period.
The Ottawa Business Journal has learned the home has been bought by a high-profile businessperson. When contacted by OBJ, the buyers’ agent, Josh Eyking, broker of record at RE/MAX Hallmark Eyking Group Realty, said he’s not in a position to confirm the identity of the buyers, and simply mentioned his clients “are excited to call the place their home.”
The closing date is in early March.

The property, located at 55 Old Sunset Blvd., is steps from the small man-made lake on the Rideau Canal. It’s also walking distance to the Arboretum at the Central Experimental Farm, and to such vibrant nearby neighbourhoods as Little Italy and the Glebe. It was built about five years ago.
The house faces west and, as the street name suggests, boasts beautiful evening panoramas. “The views are second to none,” the listing agent, Charles Sezlik, a realtor with Sezlik.com, Royal LePage Team Realty, said when contacted by OBJ.
He also declined to disclose the identity of the buyers.
Other factors in the purchase of the home, he said, were the quality of the construction and the prime location.
The privately custom built home was originally listed for $8 million when it first went up for sale in 2021 with a different listing agent. Sezlik.com had the property selling for $6,750,000 when it took over the listing in February 2023, but that figure became “extremely unachievable” as the market experienced a downward adjustment, said Sezlik of their decision to drop it to $5,950,000 last spring.
Not as many people were in the buying mood last year, he said. “I don’t care how wealthy you were, everybody’s net worth went down. Nobody was feeling very liberal with their pocket books, so it did bring an extra challenge to the sales process, for sure.”
“The property was well received,” said Sezlik, recognizing that the house is probably better suited for couples, with the occasional visitors, despite its large size of 4,500 square feet.
The Bauhaus-style glass box home with wood paneling and brick is one of Ottawa’s more distinctive abodes. It features a large primary bedroom with a walk-in closet and ensuite. There are two additional bedrooms. In total, the house has two-and-a-half bathrooms.
The property also features a rooftop terrace, home theatre, gym, elevator, heated floors, multi-car garage, and private backyard with a small waterfall and pond.
“At the end of the day, there’s a right buyer for every home,” said Sezlik. “We did receive other offers on the property that did not come together for various reasons. There’s always the right buyer for a home, and we like to think that this home found the perfect buyer.”
The sale is a positive sign for Ottawa’s luxury housing market, he added. “I think there are some great homes that are going to be coming to market in the coming weeks and months.”
