A Montreal-based developer with a significant Ottawa presence has launched plans for a large new retail outlet in Kanata that will feature U.S.-based Bass Pro Shops as an anchor tenant.
Broccolini has signed up the hunting, fishing and camping gear retailer to take over 120,000 square feet of space by the middle of 2015 at a new development planned for Kanata, Bass Pro Shops announced Wednesday in a news release.
The store, Bass Pro Shops’ first location in Ottawa, will be located directly across from the Canadian Tire Centre along Highway 417.

Smooth moves in the modern service era
A veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, Darren Hawco’s life in the Canadian Armed Forces brought him from coast to coast, with command postings at sea, to top level positions
“The location is both high-profile and accessible, which will allow us to bring Bass Pro Shops’ low prices and friendly, expert service to better serve the area’s many sportsmen and women as well as those visiting Ottawa,” said Johnny Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops, in a statement.
The store is directly adjacent to a new 350,000-square foot development RioCan is planning, said Tammy Sapp, a Bass Pro Shops’ spokeswoman. That project will feature U.S.-based retailer Tanger Outlet’s first foray into the capital.
Attempts to reach Broccolini executives to discuss the new development – including how big the entire project will be and which other tenants are involved – were unsuccessful.
Bass Pro’s store will also feature a restaurant and a “nautical-themed” bowling alley, the release said.
