A drop in U.S. traffic hampered total passenger volumes at the Ottawa International Airport last month.
The local airport authority reports that 442,893 people travelled through its terminal in July, down from 457,598 a year ago.
Traffic to and from the United States dropped 12.5 per cent year-over-year to roughly 47,200 passengers. The decline comes several weeks after United Airlines suspended its three daily round-trip flights between Ottawa and Chicago in a move announced this past spring. The suspension began partway through June but service is expected to return next March.

While international passenger volumes ticked up slightly, cross-country travel also saw a decline. Roughly 371,000 domestic travellers passed through the Ottawa airport last month, down from nearly 380,000 a year ago.
Thanks to a strong start to the year, the Ottawa airport remains on pace to surpass last year’s total passenger volumes of 5.1 million. Year-to-date passenger volumes stood at just over three million at the beginning of August.
