Interprovincial commuters are one step closer to the full reopening of a key crossing over the Ottawa River after flooding at the end of April forced its closure.
The Chaudière Crossing has been inspected and reopened to pedestrians and cyclists, Public Services and Procurement Canada announced Monday. Additionally, the Union Bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau will reopen to public transit on Wednesday at 5 a.m.
The bridge will remain closed to private, commercial and truck traffic until August due to planned construction along Booth Street and Rue Eddy. Private traffic continues to be diverted to the Portage Bridge; commercial transport and trucks are deferred farther downriver to the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge.
