Several neighbourhoods are now destined for new looks after city council approved a number of planning committee recommendations Wednesday.
Council approved a proposed 27-storey tower at 383 Slater St. that would have a commercial component on the ground floor with residential units above.
Council also approved a zoning bylaw amendment to allow a Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel on the corner of Paul Anka Drive and Dean Martin Crescent in the city’s south end.

Council repealed a bylaw that will allow development to continue in the back end of the Meadowlands Mall on Merivale Road. The Trinity Group is redeveloping the shopping centre with plans that include a two-level Movati Fitness Centre that is due to open in the fall of 2016, according to the developer’s website. It also plans on breaking up the space vacated by the former Target outlet, with a proposed food store taking up part of it.
Changes could come to Preston Street as well. Council approved a secondary mainstreet designation for Preston Street North. Some Preston Street North and Elm Street properties could also be affected by a zoning bylaw amendment council also passed.
