Four groups, including one led by the Ottawa Senators, have been invited to propose plans for the development of up to 21.6 hectares of land at Lebreton Flats, the National Capital Commission announced Wednesday.
Claridge Homes, Devcore Group, Focus Equities and Rendez Vous Lebreton Group will all receive $75,000 from the NCC to develop their plans, to be submitted by November.
The NCC said it expects to announce the successful bid by mid-2016.

In a release issued by the NCC, the Ottawa Senators are never named, but it does say the Rendez Vous Lebreton Group is planning “a major event centre for sports and entertainment performances.” Its proposal also includes residential and commercial development as well as green space.
Claridge is proposing indoor and outdoor concert venues and cultural enterprises, again with green space and residential and commercial development.
Devcore Group is planning multiple cultural institutions “developed around a grande allée,” along with the green space and residential and commercial development.
Focus Equities is proposing to house the headquarters of an international institution, accompanied by cultural venues and the ubiquitous green space and residential and commercial development.
Five groups submitted bids for the project in early January. The only group not invited to continue was not identified.
