Vancouver-based social media management platform Hootsuite has hired a longtime Ottawa tech executive to fill a key role on its software development team.

Hootsuite announced Monday that Manish Kamra is joining the company as senior vice-president of software development and will remain based in the nation’s capital.

An alumnus of India’s Mangalore University, Kamra brings more than 25 years of experience in software R&D to the role. Most recently, he served as vice-president of software development and head of CENX product development at Ericsson’s Ottawa office.

“Social has grown into the most powerful medium for organizations to drive influence, expand their reach, amplify their brand and improve the customer experience,” Kamra said in a statement, adding he was looking forward to working with chief technology officer Ryan Donovan to “define the underlying product and technology strategies that constitute Hootsuite’s dynamic product portfolio and ensure a customer-first ethos organization-wide.”

Kamra joined CENX in late 2017, less than a year before it was acquired by Ericsson. Before that, he worked in various senior software and engineering roles at a number of major tech firms with prominent Ottawa operations, including Nortel, Newbridge Networks, BlackBerry and Wind River.

In a news release Monday, Hootsuite said Kamra will be responsible for “evaluating emerging technologies and engineering practices with a strategic focus on partnerships and potential acquisitions” as well as managing corporate R&D initiatives.

“Manish is a driven, clear and charismatic leader who approaches his work with a growth mindset,” Donovan said in a statement.

“His capabilities will serve him well as he leads our global software development strategy and as our company continues on a trajectory of high growth. I’m excited to welcome Manish to our team and am confident in his ability to continue to unlock innovation within our platform.”
