Tourism plans are getting underway in Eastern Ontario after many events were cancelled during the pandemic years.
The Ontario Festival of Small Halls will offer intimate live music concerts in small communities across eastern Ontario in May in a bid to attract long-awaited tourism throughout the region.
Big names like Ashley MacIsaac, Chris Murphy and Great Lake Swimmers will headline the “eclectic” festival, which features Canadian artists in unique, small venues and brings local music to more rural areas “with musical mavericks, trusty veterans and some remarkable newcomers,” said Anna Wood, general manager of the festival, in a news release.

Of the 17 concerts in the festival, eight will be held in Leeds and Grenville, with the others spread throughout Renfrew, Lanark, Ottawa, and Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.
Perth Tourism has also announced the return of its Perth Night Market, a free event that will take over the streets of downtown Perth on May 28. According to organizers, the event offers the opportunity to explore the unique offerings housed in Perth’s beautiful heritage buildings. Businesses in and around the downtown core will be open late and street closures will allow for physical distancing.
With a view to bolstering tourism in future, the Leeds Grenville economic development office is undertaking its first tourism destination strategy and action plan. As the county looks to recover from the pandemic, it will be working with Twenty31 and Alphabet Creative to conduct public surveys and stakeholder consultations with a completion date at the end of June.
