Ten more BTMs launched across country, one at Bayshore

Canada now has more bitcoin teller machines (BTMs) than any other country in the world after 10 more were installed Wednesday, and an Ottawa company is leading the way in fuelling their growth.

BitAccess, located in Little Italy on Aberdeen Street, built the machines, six of which were installed in the Toronto area. Four others were installed across the country, all at Gateway Newstand locations, including one in the Bayshore Shopping Centre. It is the city’s fourth BTM.

The latest machines were released by CAVIRTEX, and the bitcoin exchange and service provider’s CEO, Joseph David, called Wednesday’s launch a “significant milestone.”

“It’s a big first step working with BitAccess and Gateway Newstands, and as demand increases we plan to install more BTMs across the country,” he said in a release.

CAVIRTEX has connected the new machines directly to its online exchange to ensure customers get the best price. Users either scan a code with a bitcode wallet app or get a paper wallet from the machine.

The exchange said in the release it hopes to continue working with BitAccess to install BTMs in 500 other locations along the Gateway Newstands Network.
