Just over a week after the head of the consortium that built the $2.1-billion Confederation Line said he was stepping down, the organization has hired a veteran finance executive to replace him.

The Rideau Transit Group said Tuesday that Nicolas Truchon will take over for outgoing chief executive Peter Lauch effective July 10. Truchon has more than two decades of experience developing and operating public-private partnerships, most recently as chief financial officer of the $4.2-billion Samuel de Champlain Bridge project in Montreal.

Lauch has led the partnership of ACS Infrastructure, EllisDon and SNC-Lavalin since the summer of 2018. Last year, he also took on the additional role of chief executive of Rideau Transit Maintenance, which is responsible for maintaining the 12.5-kilometre light rail system.

RTG said Mario Guerra has been named the new CEO of Rideau Transit Maintenance. Guerra has been involved in Ottawa’s LRT project since 2016 and previously held various roles with the Toronto Transit Commission and the New York City Transit Authority.

The east-west rail line has been plagued with service issues since it opened last September. The system was recently closed for maintenance and repairs after a series of problems with components ranging from the doors and brakes to the on-board computers and overhead power systems.

The city wants to have all the problems solved by the end of August, but earlier this month OC Transpo boss John Manconi questioned RTG’s ability to meet that timeline.
