National accounting firm MNP has acquired two Baker Tilly member firms based in eastern Ontario, the company announced this week.

National accounting firm MNP has acquired two Baker Tilly member firms based in eastern Ontario, the company announced this week.
The two firms are part of Baker Tilly’s cooperative of Canadian chartered accounting member businesses and have offices in Ottawa, Gatineau, Carleton Place, Cobden, Kemptville, Morrisburg, Pembroke and Winchester.
The firms’ 25 partners and 200 team members joined MNP effective Sept. 21, according to a press release. Both firms have provided accounting, tax and advisory services to private enterprise organizations for more than 50 years.
“We are very happy to welcome both firms’ teams and clients to MNP,” said Jared Bourne, MNP’s executive vice-president for Ontario outside the Greater Toronto Area.
“Like our existing team across Eastern Ontario, they have a deep understanding of the region’s business community and an entrepreneurial focus on helping mid-market organizations thrive,” said Bourne. “By bringing our teams together, we will be even better positioned to support all our clients and communities with a wide breadth of services.”
Both firms will remain in their current offices. Among the partners joining MNP from Baker Tilly are Michael Hayward and Benjamin Mann.
Hayward said the move bolsters his firm’s ability to support its clients.
“As we looked to grow our firm but maintain the culture, autonomy and agility that enables us to offer the tailored solutions our clients expect, we knew that MNP’s Canadian partner-owned and partner-led approach was the right fit for our team,” said Hayward. “They furthermore strengthen our current service offerings and bring additional technology and resources that will better position our team and our clients for long-term success.”
Mann added that MNP’s national and regional agriculture expertise and services were deciding factors in his firm's choice to join MNP.
“As our firm’s offices are all based in rural Eastern Ontario, which is heavily concentrated in the agricultural industry, it was important to join a firm that understood the space,” said Mann. “With MNP’s commitment to agriculture clients, including their existing offices in Hawkesbury, Cornwall, Brockville and Casselman, we knew we would work well together.”
MNP now has more than 700 partners across Canada. It has made numerous acquisitions in eastern Ontario since 2014, including with firms in Ottawa, Gatineau, Hawkesbury, Casselman, Brockville and Cornwall.
