Big-data analytics and cloud services provider Pythian has hired former Shopify executive Shawn Gandhi to help boost its customer engineering services and grow its Canadian operations.
The Ottawa-based company announced this week that Gandhi has been named senior vice-president of customer engineering and country managing director for Canada.
In a statement, Pythian said the Carleton University engineering alumnus will work with customers to design and implement solutions for their data, analytics, and AI initiatives and help “fuel Pythian’s Canadian growth ambitions.”
Gandhi, a 2021 Forty Under 40 recipient, most recently spent two years as a senior executive at Shopify. He joined the e-commerce giant in 2022 as director of engineering for its fulfilment network and then spent a year as the engineering lead on many of the company’s major growth products, including Shop Promise and Shopify Tax.
Before joining Shopify, Gandhi had a four-year stint at Amazon Web Services, where he worked with enterprise customers in New York and Boston before helping launch AWS’s Canadian operations in 2016.
“We are thrilled to have Shawn join us to lead our customer engineering practice,” Pythian CEO Brooks Borcherding said in a statement.
“His commitment to driving innovation and his ability to inspire teams aligns perfectly with our goals. Shawn will be pivotal in advancing our efforts to empower customers with solutions that transform data into actionable insights.”
Founded in 1997, Pythian is headquartered in Ottawa and has offices in New York, Minneapolis, London, Australia and India.
In addition to providing IT support and management to customers on platforms such as Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Oracle and Microsoft Azure, Pythian also uses big-data analytics to help food retailers and other clients with tasks such as managing their supply chains.
