European boutique realty firm arrives in Ottawa

A new player arrived on the Ottawa realty scene Monday with the announcement that German boutique realty firm Engel & Völkers is open for business.

While the firm may have its origins in Hamburg, longtime Ottawa realtor John King will be the owner and broker of record of the Ottawa shop, heading a team of six out of offices in Wellington Village.

“Ottawa is increasingly attracting international buyers and sellers,” Mr. King said in a statement. “As Engel & Völkers Ottawa Central, our local expertise and reputation will be enhanced with unmatched international reach.”

As a national capital home to many foreign embassies, government buildings, and cultural, Ottawa was attractive to the firm, and Engel & Völkers North America CEO Anthony Hitt said he is expecting big things from Mr. King and the Ottawa branch.

“Under their leadership, Engel & Völkers Ottawa Central will represent a new standard in real estate which will include unmatched global reach and exposure in a market that is home to a diverse and growing population,” Mr. Hitt said in a statement.

The new Ottawa location is the latest in the firm’s Canadian expansion. It arrived in 2015 and already has a presence in Toronto, Markham, King City, Collingwood, Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Mont Tremblant, Montreal.

More openings are planned in other Canadian markets, it said in a statement.

Engel & Völkers has grown to more than 700 shops across 37 countries and five continents around the world since it was formed in 1977.
