The Ottawa airport continues to have a banner 2019 as traffic through the regional travel hub continued to climb in the month of May.
Roughly 440,000 travellers passed through the Ottawa International Airport last month, an increase of 5.6 per cent from the same period a year ago. To date, total passenger volume is up three per cent year-over-year.
Just like last month, the airportās biggest overall boost again came from domestic traffic ā up 12,850 to 366,206 passengers. Some observers suggest this trend stems from airlines routing international travelers through Toronto or Montreal at the expense of direct flights to the capital.

International traffic saw the largest relative increase in May, up 25 per cent year-over-year, while U.S. passenger volumes rose roughly 14 per cent. Transborder traffic accounted for the biggest boost to the airportās total passenger volumes in 2018, which Airport Authority CEO Mark Laroche attributed to U.S. carriers increasing capacity on Ottawa-bound flights.
