More than 300 front-desk staff, housekeepers, maintenance workers and other customer service employees at the Château Laurier could be on the picket line as soon as next month.
Unifor Local 4270 said this week its members have voted 94 per cent in favour of strike action if the two sides can’t reach an agreement on a new contract. The local represents front desk staff, maintenance and housekeeping employees, kitchen staff, servers and other hospitality and customer service workers at the downtown hotel.
In a statement on its website, the union said it’s calling for a “more reasonable workload” for housekeepers and a fairer gratuities system for employees.

Château Laurier spokesperson Deneen Perrin wouldn’t comment on the status of the contract talks, saying negotiations are scheduled to resume on May 13.
“We remain confident that we’ll be able to come to a win-win agreement for both parties,” she added.
The workers have been without a contract for more than a year. The previous collective bargaining agreement expired on Dec. 31, 2017.
