Samsung has officially approved the You.i Engine as a solution for developing apps on its Tizen TV operating system, opening up a new marketplace for Kanata-based You.i TV.

You.i TV develops video experience apps across Apple, Android and Amazon Fire TV platforms, to name just a few. Customers include broadcasters such as Corus Entertainment and Time Warner, the latter of which lead You.i TV’s $12 million series-B funding round last year.

You.i TV chief executive Jason Flick said in a statement that the ability to develop on Samsung’s interactive and Smart TV platforms expands the firm’s market reach and the capabilities of its clients.

“The key to You.i Engine’s market growth has been our ability to accelerate (the) availability of compelling, cross-platform apps that deliver results for the content industry,” he said.

As part of the announcement, the company says it’s already working with clients on apps for Tizen due for release later this year.
