The Ottawa chapter of the Manning Innovation Awards released the 2017 award nominees to recognize outstanding Canadian innovations: Corey Ellis for his innovation The Growcer, a turnkey approach addressing food security, and Suhayya Abu-Hakima and Ken Grigg for their Amika Mobility Server, which distributes alert messages to those in an area at risk. The award recipients will be announced in November.
Canada’s Small & Medium Employers, in partnership with the Globe and Mail, recognized local firms Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP / s.r.l., Kinaxis, Pythian Group and Solink among its 2017 winners. The award recognizes employers with the flexibility to adapt quickly to changing conditions.
Two Ottawa high school students are among the finalists who will have the opportunity to pitch their business ideas in the Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition. Jeremy Chevalley of Académie de la Seigneurie will pitch Moo Call and Clip, and Victoria Gillan of Canterbury High School will pitch for St8ment Media. The annual competition is presented by Ontario Centres of Excellence and the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth.
