Wesley Clover Founder and Chairman Sir Terry Matthews received the Key to the City from Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe during Tech Tuesday, where the mayor described the honour as recognition for someone who has played a major role in shaping Ottawa while largely avoiding the spotlight.
Sutcliffe noted that Matthews has consistently directed attention toward his companies and the people behind them rather than himself. Widely recognized as a serial entrepreneur, Matthews has founded and funded more than 200 companies, contributing significantly to Ottawa’s business and technology sectors through decades of investment and innovation.
Beyond measurable economic impact, speakers highlighted Matthews’ influence in inspiring entrepreneurs, expanding Ottawa’s global reputation, and supporting the city’s long-term growth. Representatives from KRP Properties said his legacy continues to shape the local innovation ecosystem by helping create environments where companies and communities can grow.
