Calian continues healthcare push with acquisition of Kanata clinic

Ottawa-based Calian Technologies (TSX:CTY) has expanded its presence in the healthcare market with the acquisition of the Med Team, a medical clinic in Kanata that offers family medicine and walk-in services.

“The Med-Team acquisition aligns to our strategic goals related to the establishment of a national civilian healthcare footprint to augment our military offerings, strengthening our national medical practitioner network and expanding our health service offerings to our clients,” said Kevin Ford, president of the business and technology services division at Calian, in a press release.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed and Calian officials were not available to provide further comment.

Calian has increasingly been moving into the medical clinic business. In 2012, the company acquired Primacy Management, which runs over 100 medical clinics in Loblaw’s stores across the country.

The company also manages two other clinics, one in Ottawa and another in Nova Scotia.

Calian already provides medical services to the Department of National Defence, along with other government agencies and private businesses. The company’s other businesses include training, IT services, contract manufacturing and systems engineering.
