After transforming downtown Ottawa this month with its Crashed Ice grand finale, Red Bull is bringing its rally car races to the Aviation and Space Museum this summer.
In partnership with Ottawa 2017, Red Bull Global Rallycross will bring its championship event to Canada for the first time on June 17 and 18. The event, usually held in the United States, is a high-collision rally car race, capped off at the finish line with “the series’ signature 70-foot jump.”
The Aviation and Space Museum, off the Sir George Etienne Cartier Parkway, will play host to the event with portions of the nearby Rockcliffe Airport being used for sections of the track. Cars will race along paved and dirt roads, with grandstands set up along the course for crowds to get close to the mud-flinging action.

Like Crashed Ice, Ottawa 2017 executive director Guy Laflamme said in a statement that the success of the Global Rallycross event may lead to the series’ return in subsequent years.
“Ottawa represents a perfect fit for Red Bull GRC as we return to international competition in 2017,” said Red Bull GRC chief executive Colin Dyne in a statement. “We’ve been fortunate to see many Canadian fans at our events in the United States over the years, and we’re looking forward to bringing our racing formula north for the very first time, and to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum.”
According to a press release, Red Bull GRC will also plant 10,000 trees to contribute to Ecology Ottawa’s goal of planting one million trees in the city this year in honour of the sesquicentennial.
