After announcing its closure last month, Sultan Ahmet Turkish Cuisine is reopening its Ottawa location on Bank Street in the former home of the Clocktower Brew Pub.
The restaurant announced on its Instagram page last week that it would continue to operate under new management and with a slightly modified menu.
“We’re back – and under new management! Reopening soon with fresh flavours, better service and your favourite Turkish classics. Stay tuned,” the restaurant wrote in the post.

The building at 575 Bank St. had been home to the Clocktower Brew Pub since 1996. When the pub closed at the end of 2023, it made way for Sultan Ahmet to open in April 2024.
The closure of the pub was a loss for the Glebe. In February 2024, Darrell Cox, executive director of the Glebe BIA, said that it was sad to see the brewery leave the neighbourhood after nearly three decades.
“They’ve been a mainstay in our community for many years,” he said at the time. “A lot of our residents and people around the city have lots of fond memories of nights out at Clocktower.”
The pub was considered the oldest craft brewery in the Ottawa region, according to Brad Campeau, owner of local company Brew Donkey Tours, which offers tours of brew pubs around town.
Clocktower Brew Pub continues to operate locations at 418 Richmond Rd. in Westboro, and 422 MacKay St. in New Edinburgh.
Last month, upon hearing of the closure of Sultan Ahmet, Cox said he was confident the vacancy would be filled and help bring a buzz to the area, adding that commercial retail space in the Glebe is “in very high demand” and that 575 Bank wouldn’t have any issues with its large footprint and attached parking lot.
While Cox said it’s always difficult to see any business leave the Glebe, it allows for new opportunities. For example, Mandy’s Salads, a popular Montreal lunch spot, opened its first Ottawa location next door to 575 Bank St. on Aug. 15, something Cox said will help bring foot traffic to the north end of Bank Street.
According to the Sultan Ahmet website, the restaurant serves Turkish classics such as doners, kebabs and other traditional entrees, pastries and desserts. It also operates locations in Hamilton, Mississauga and Oakville.
