In a bid to expand its network in Western Canada, Porter Airlines this week announced a new non-stop route from Ottawa to Edmonton while also marking its first Ottawa-to-Vancouver direct flight Wednesday.
The new route from Ottawa International Airport (YOW) to Edmonton International Airport (YEG) begins Oct. 4, with one daily roundtrip flight on Porter’s 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.
“We are delighted that Porter Airlines is adding non-stop service between Ottawa and Edmonton to their growing list of destinations from YOW,” said Mark Laroche, president and CEO of the Ottawa International Airport Authority, in a news release. “This addition is another reason why Ottawa-Gatineau travellers should embrace Porter as their hometown carrier and enjoy the enhanced travel experience that awaits.”

“The addition of this route provides a higher level of connectivity across our network between Eastern and Western Canada,” said Kevin Jackson, executive vice-president and chief commercial officer with Porter.
“This exciting addition to our flight offerings not only strengthens business and government ties between our regions, but also enhances tourism opportunities for travellers seeking a seamless connection to our country’s capital city,” said Myron Keehn, president and CEO of YEG.
On Wednesday, Porter marked its first Western Canada destination from Ottawa with the new daily roundtrip flight to Vancouver International Airport (YVR), also on the Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.
“West coast! We are thrilled that non-stop service to Vancouver is now a reality and know that Ottawa-Gatineau travellers are, too,” said Laroche. “Porter’s growth at YOW is exceptional; by the end of this summer, they will be offering non-stop flights to 11 destinations, spanning Western Canada, the U.S. and the Atlantic.
“The airline’s commitment to establishing Ottawa as its jet maintenance base, which is currently in construction, is a testament to YOW’s importance as a key hub for coast-to-coast connectivity.”
“The Ottawa-Vancouver route is an important part of our expansion as we build a coast-to-coast network that offers travellers our unique approach to economy air travel,” said Jackson.
“This new route to Ottawa provides an additional option and flexibility for passengers looking to access Ottawa and beyond into Eastern Canada,” said Russell Atkinson, director, air service development at the Vancouver Airport Authority.
