Ottawa’s planning and housing committee gave the green light Wednesday to a Gatineau developer’s proposal to construct four six-storey apartment buildings near Tenth Line Road in Orléans.
Construction Chartro says the multi-residential development at 3459 and 3479 St. Joseph Blvd., east of the Tenth Line Road on-ramps to Highway 174, will contain a total of 326 one- and two-bedroom apartments.
Current zoning rules do not permit residential development on the property.

The buildings will share an underground parking garage that includes 376 parking spaces for residents. The development will contain an additional 68 above-ground parking spots for visitors and people with disabilities, as well as parking for 168 bicycles.
According to planning documents, the site will also include about half an acre of accessible green space.
Although the current proposal does not include commercial space, a city staff report says the developer “has agreed to re-examine opportunities to provide a mix of uses” during the site plan control review to be more in accordance with the Orléans Corridor Secondary Plan.
Council will vote on the proposal at its next meeting on Jan. 25.
