The inspiration: “We are helping Bruyere to deliver on their mission of building a more responsive health-care system that delivers the best care to patients and families so they can recover better, return to work earlier, and have productive, high-quality lives,” says Scott Brooker, associate vice-president at Cushman & Wakefield Ottawa.
Over two decades, Cushman & Wakefield Ottawa has had a significant impact on the Bruyere Research Institute by raising money. Recently, the commercial real estate brokers committed to extending their financial support through their annual charity golf classic. The tournament is always a sell-out as golfers from the real estate industry mark the big day on their calendar. Proceeds from the tournament will be directed to the Bruyere Foundation until 2025.
“We support Bruyere because the work they do touches us all. Not only do they provide vital support and deliver exceptional care within our community, (but) through the Bruyere Research Institute they are conducting world-class local, national and international research studies aimed at improving health care in our community and beyond,” says Brooker.

Philanthropy is often defined as giving time, talent and treasure. Cushman & Wakefield Ottawa has not only financially invested over the years, but many staff members have also played a significant role on the foundation’s board. Paul Hindo, formerly of Cushman & Wakefield Ottawa, was a founding member of the Bruyere Foundation board and is now an honourary member. Other company associates who have been on the board include Nathan Smith and Alain Desmarais. Brooker is currently a member of the board.
The strong partnership between the health-care provider and Cushman & Wakefield is evident as soon as you walk through the doors on Bruyere Street, where the welcoming entrance is named for the brokerage. The company has also contributed to the geriatric day hospital outpatient clinic, the renovation of the palliative care unit and the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice in the city’s west end.
