The drones, tech and armoured vehicles of Canada’s largest defense and security trade show rolled through Ottawa this week at CANSEC 2017.
The annual conference, put on by the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI), welcomes hundreds of private firms, government officials and foreign delegations to get a sense of the best Canada’s defense and security sector has to offer. Heads-up displays, unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters, tanks, firearms and artillery lined the floors between booths at the bustling exhibition.
On full display was Ottawa’s own defense sector, which, according to data from Invest Ottawa, features more than 190 companies that employ roughly 10,000 people. The Capital plays a role in the supply chains of large contractors such as General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin Canada, as well as breeding its own emerging technology companies. Allen-Vanguard, DEW Engineering and Development ULC, Calian, Gastops and BAE systems were all out on the show floor.
