Partner: EY – Fostering a lasting impact through community and philanthropy

Building a better working world is EY’s purpose. The global professional services firm strives to increase confidence and trust in business, and build communities that are stronger than ever. And EY’s Ottawa practice is bringing that global purpose to life each and every day.

Led by Deanna Monaghan, EY Ottawa’s Office Managing Partner, the organization’s commitment to community and philanthropy is deeply engrained in its culture.

“Corporate responsibility is integral to our business strategy and day-to- day operations,” says Ms. Monaghan. “It’s how we understand our impact on the world around us.”

But EY doesn’t simply provide an extra set of hands. The organization taps into their people’s professional skills and capabilities to contribute more to the community. Ms. Monaghan leads by example, currently on several boards and committees including the University of Ottawa, Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health, Ottawa Network for Education, and the Ottawa Chapter of the International Women’s Forum.

And the buck doesn’t stop there – the majority of EY Ottawa Partners, Senior Managers and Managers, sit on boards or volunteer their time with local organizations that support causes such as education, health care, technology, entrepreneurship and socio-economic development in Ottawa.

Ian Sherman, Tax Partner and Chair of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, sees a strong business sector as the foundation for personal growth and professional success.

“The communities around us have a profound impact on the future of business, both here at EY and for our clients as we protect and enrich Ottawa’s economic prosperity and quality of life,” says Mr. Sherman.

Stephen McIntyre, EY Ottawa’s Private Client Sector Partner, believes “Our investment of time and energy will help to build a lasting philanthropic footprint at EY and in our community.”

The Ottawa office participates in EY Connect Day, an annual community volunteer day that takes place globally across all EY major cities. This year, EY Ottawa is supporting 12 local charities by providing approximately 750 volunteer hours to community organizations, including the Youth Services Bureau, the Ottawa Mission, Shepherds of Good Hope, Operation Come Home, Fletcher Wildlife Garden, and the Snowsuit Fund, among others.

EY Ottawa poses the question: “Can 1 day of giving back inspire 364 more?”
