The National Capital Commission has picked a Calgary firm to shape the master plan for LeBreton Flats.

The Crown corporation announced Thursday that, following a public tender process, O2 Planning + Design will lead plans for the redevelopment of LeBreton Flats.

The NCC rebooted the LeBreton file earlier this year when plans fell apart to revitalize the 55-acre swath of land with a collection of residential and mixed-use developments. The new concept will see the long-vacant site west of the downtown core parcelled out for gradual development rather than an all-or-nothing approach.

Now, O2 will work with a series of partners to help incorporate public feedback into a shared vision for the Flats. Among them are Ottawa engineering firms CIMA+ and Paterson Group.

O2 counts numerous public realm design projects for the City of Calgary and elsewhere in Alberta among its portfolio.

O2’s Chris Hardwicke will lead the project for the firm. He previously served as a director of Build Toronto (now called CreateTO), a municipal agency that helps the city manage its extensive real estate portfolio.
