With ambitions to put an autonomous rover in space, Kanata-based Neptec has been awarded multiple contracts valued at nearly $1.8 million by the Canadian Space Agency.
A federal government release says the contracts will fund the development of a miniature three-dimensional camera that could enable a rover to “navigate autonomously on the moon and Mars, or on Earth.”
Additionally, Neptec will develop a new system to study the effects of microgravity on the human body and work with various international partners including McMaster University to create a new light-based communication system between Earth and its satellites.
