Construction permits up 34% in February

A smaller number of larger construction permits this February boosted the combined value by 34.3 per cent year-over-year, according to municipal records.

The value of local construction permits was up $37.9 million compared to last year, even though fewer permits were issued.

The city issued 350 permits with a combined value of $148.8 million, compared to 421 permits valued at $110.78 million a year earlier.

Topping the charts was the construction of a four-storey seniors’ residence for Bruyère Continuing Care, valued at $28 million.

Close behind were the permits for two neighbouring sites on Lisgar Street, both to be used for the construction of a 21-storey condominium, for $27 million per lot.
