Candidates make their pitches for city council: Meladul Haq Ahmadzai, Gloucester-Southgate

On Thursday, Aug. 28, OBJ issued an open invitation to all candidates in the upcoming municipal election to answer one simple question: Why should the business community vote for you?

As the responses come in, one will be published online each day, and be included in our daily email newsletter. Send your response to editor@obj.ca.

Today’s response is from, Meladul Haq Ahmadzai, candidate in Gloucester-Southgate.

**************************

My name is Meladul Haq Ahmadzai and I am running for councillor in Gloucester-Southgate.

The Ottawa business community should vote for me because I will be their voice at city hall. Often businesses need financial support to upgrade equipment, hire staff, provide training, etc. I will argue for lower business taxes, equipment subsidies and training costs.

I have and I will continue to use my foot to suggest investments in more businesses, even if it requires amending city bylaws.

For example, during my candidacy, I was extremely happy when I learned that Uber was coming to Ottawa. And when I read of Minister Baird complaining of a long taxi delay, I knew I was right when earlier, I spoke out in support of Uber starting up in Ottawa and consequently creating more employment opportunities.

My platform is straightforward: To improve and invest in small, medium and large businesses in Ottawa.

For more information on my views and my ideas, check out my platform at www.ahmadzai.ca, or please email me at meladulhaqahmadzai@yahoo.ca. I look forward to hear from, and work with, members of Ottawa’s business community.
