A Hawkesbury-based company that manufactures safety equipment for aircraft and military vehicles has acquired a U.K. firm that provides training slides, rafts and other products to airlines around the world.
Tulmar Safety Systems announced this week it has bought British firm Icarus Training Systems. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“We are excited to have added the world-class Icarus products to our line of aviation training solutions,” Tulmar CEO Barney Bangs said in a statement.

Manufacturing of its products will now shift to Tulmar’s 60,000-square-foot facility in Hawkesbury, while Icarus managing director Stuart Haycock is joining the eastern Ontario firm’s leadership team.
Tulmar was founded in 1992. The company’s products range from highly specialized protection equipment for military vehicles to inflatable life support and flotation products for military and aerospace customers.
An affiliated company, Tulmar Manufacturing, is based in Ogdensburg, N.Y., and provides light manufacturing and assembly for defence and transportation contractors in the U.S. Another affiliate, Tulmar Technical Services, provides management services to cabin crew training centres across Canada.
