A veteran entrepreneur is the new head of an organization that’s invested tens of millions of dollars in fledgling eastern Ontario companies over the past seven years.
The Southeastern Ontario Angel Network announced Tuesday that Mike Amos has been named managing director. Amos replaces John Malloy, who retired at the end of March after serving as the organization’s leader since it was founded in 2014.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build off the tremendous work that John Molloy fostered through his vision in creating and building a leading angel network across eastern Ontario,” Amos said in a statement.

A commerce graduate of the University of Toronto, Amos worked as an analyst at the Toronto office of business analytics firm Dun & Bradstreet before serving in various executive roles at PepsiCo, Loblaw and Brookfield Properties.
In 2001, he founded software firm Empathica, raising $16 million in venture capital and growing the company to 180 employees before selling it to U.S.-based InMoment. Since then, he’s been an adviser and entrepreneur-in-residence at a number of Ontario startup hubs, including Toronto’s MaRS Discovery District and Kingston-based Launch Lab.
“Mike’s diverse expertise and professional insights will enhance SOAN initiatives, which will in turn provide greater opportunity to eastern Ontario entrepreneurs looking for potential investment from a roaster of impressive angel investors,” SOAN chairman Scott Runté, who is also CEO of Launch Lab, said in a statement.
SOAN, which includes investors from Cornwall, Brockville, Kingston, Belleville and Trenton, has contributed more than $40 million to local companies since its inception.
