One of the region’s busiest tourist attractions says it’s planning to reopen its doors later this month after being closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement on its website, the Casino du Lac-Leamy says it will start welcoming customers back on July 23, while the neighbouring Hilton Lac-Leamy hotel will officially reopen on July 13.
“Every effort has been made to ensure your safety and that of our employees,” the casino said in a post this week.

Visitors will notice a few changes as the casino implements various measures designed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Its hours of operation will be reduced to 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. to allow time for daily cleaning and disinfecting throughout the building. Total capacity will be limited to 1,000 patrons at a time, with a maximum of 250 people allowed in each of the casino’s four sections.
In addition, masks will be mandatory for all customers, and all patrons will be required to sanitize their hands before entering the facility. Visitors will also be given rubber-tipped stylus pens to avoid touching slot machines, while customers will not be allowed to handle cards or chips at gaming tables. Chips will be washed and disinfected daily, and all employees will be required to wear masks at all times and eye protection when needed.
The amount of customers per table will be limited to allow for physical distancing, and protective screens will be installed. Keno and poker will not be offered so as to limit the handling of chips and cards, and the dealer will handle cards in other games. Bars and show halls will remain closed, and only snack foods will be served.
About three million people visit the Casino du Lac-Leamy each year, making it one of the National Capital Region’s most popular tourist attractions. According to Loto-Québec’s most recent annual report, the facility earned revenues of $265 million in fiscal 2019.
