A local construction and environmental contractor has landed a six-figure contract to remove hazardous material from a Carling Avenue office building.

Amor Construction received a $258,888 contract from Agricultural and Agri-Food Canada for the abatement, remediation and disposal of asbestos from the K.W. Neatby Building on the edge of the Central Experimental Farm, according to federal procurement records.

Constructed between 1936 and 1938, the K.W. Neatby Building at 960 Carling Ave. is a recognized federal heritage building containing the Eastern Cereal and Oilseed Research Centre.

Bid documents show asbestos is contained throughout the building and used in pipe insulation as well as ceiling and wall plaster.
