A forthcoming four-lane road connecting two sections of Campeau Drive is expected to improve capacity for commuters in Kanata North.

When the infrastructure project is complete in two-years time, the two unconnected sections of Campeau Drive will be linked through Didsbury Road and Country Glen Way, parallel to Highway 417. The new road, across the Queensway from the Canadian Tire Centre, will provide the neighbourhood of Arcadia access to Terry Fox Drive and the Kanata Centrum Shopping Centre to the north.

Aecon Construction broke ground on the $32-million project Friday morning. The fresh roadway will include cycling lanes, sidewalks and a bridge over the Carp River.

In a statement, Mayor Jim Watson said the new project will streamline local traffic and alleviate congestion for commuters – a common complaint from companies in the nearby Kanata North tech park.

Construction of the Campeau Drive extension is expected to finish by the end of 2021.
