The Christmas Cheer Breakfast will go on after all, organizers confirmed Monday, after a late-game cancellation due to lack of venue was quickly reversed with some help from the Ontario government.
On Friday, a post on the Christmas Cheer Ottawa website said that due to “unsurmountable challenges finding a suitable venue,” there will be no breakfast event this December.
News that the popular annual fundraising event would not go ahead this year was met with disappointment from the Ottawa community. But just as the holiday spirit started to fade, Nepean MPP Lisa MacLeod stepped in to help find a venue for the event.

Christmas Cheer organizers confirmed on their website Monday that the breakfast will take place after all, “thanks to MPP Lisa MacLeod and the Shaw Centre.”
The provincially owned Shaw Centre is the latest venue for the breakfast after last year’s Christmas Cheer Breakfast shifted to Lansdowne’s Aberdeen Pavilion for the first time following many years at the Westin hotel. Previous years’ events have raised more than $100,000 for charities in the region.
The 2019 Christmas Cheer Breakfast will take place on Dec. 6 with tickets set to go on sale shortly, according to the website.
