PageCloud founder Craig Fitzpatrick is stepping down as CEO of his ambitious startup and departing the Ottawa tech scene as he decides on his next steps.
Fitzpatrick announced he would step down as chief executive of the web development company in a blog post late Tuesday evening, though his LinkedIn profile lists him as ending his CEO tenure back in June. He will remain as chairman of the company he started four years ago.
Greg Evans, PageCloud’s vice-president of strategic partnerships, will take over as CEO.

In the post, Fitzpatrick wrote that he had suffered from “startup burnout” in recent months. His days had become consumed with board management and various metrics, he said, none of which were “the reason (he started the) company in the first place.”
“After much consideration, it’s time for me to move aside and let the rest of the story unfold,” Fitzpatrick wrote.
PageCloud made waves with its ambitious plan to “fix the internet,” taking on established platforms such as WordPress and Squarespace with an alternative application that sought to make building websites possible for the everyday user. Under Fitzpatrick’s leadership, the local firm raised $11.5 million and pitched on the TechCrunch stage back in 2015.
In a related LinkedIn post, Fitzpatrick added that he’ll be moving to Toronto next month as he figures out his next move.
“In the grand scheme of things, this is still just the beginning for PageCloud. And like a proud parent, I look forward to my creation’s continued growth while I recharge and contemplate what to do next,” he wrote.
