Ottawa’s Minto Group is proposing to build a new subdivision at the northwest edge of Barrhaven, containing 942 residential units.

Ottawa’s Minto Group is proposing to build a subdivision on the southern edge of Barrhaven, containing 942 residential units.
The development, which would be an expansion of the company's existing Quinn's Pointe subdivision, is proposed for a 47-hectare area of land on Barnsdale Road, just east of Highway 416.
According to a planning rationale document for the project, the area is surrounded by existing and developing low- and medium-density residential subdivisions to the north and east, with farmland to the south. To the west, on the other side of the highway, are a variety of industrial uses.
The new subdivision would include 448 single detached homes, 396 townhouses and 98 back-to-back townhouses. Also included in the proposal is a stormwater management pond, retained woodlot and parklands.
“The proposed development is envisioned as an expansion of the existing Quinn’s Pointe community, located immediately east of the subject lands,” the document said. “The proposed development will also co-locate the new municipal park with the existing Pointe Park, expanding the size of the existing parkette to a 2.27 hectare neighbourhood park.”
The project would be completed in three phases, beginning in the north and progressing toward Barnsdale Road. The first phase would include the park and stormwater management pond.
In addition to the Quinn’s Pointe community, Minto Group is working on a nearby development in Manotick called Mahogany at 108 Moretto Ct. According to the company’s website, the first three phases of the project are complete, with the fourth currently under construction.
In total, Mahogany is expected to create 1,400 residential units, with some homes containing up to seven bedrooms. It will also create new green spaces, a six-acre park and a school.
