Les Rechan has landed on his feet after leaving the recently-acquired Halogen Software, as the Ottawa tech veteran has been named CEO of Kanata’s Solace.

Mr. Rechan will replace Solace founder Craig Betts in the role, who will in turn move to a new role as executive chairman of the board of directors.

The Ottawa-based firm develops technology to improve the speed of data transfers via hybrid cloud and on-premise infrastructure.

“I am proud to welcome Les to Solace as CEO,” said Mr. Betts in a statement.

“I have known and admired Les since he and his family moved to Ottawa over a decade ago. With over 30 years of industry experience, his operational expertise is unparalleled, making him the ideal person to step into the CEO role as we continue to grow in our increasingly cloud-focused business. We are grateful for the opportunity to hire an executive of Les’ caliber – this is truly a significant milestone for our company.”

Mr. Rechan said in a release he was “thrilled” to join Solace. He comes to the firm after more than 30 years in the tech sector, including acting as chief operating officer at Ottawa-based Cognos, senior vice-president at Oracle and holding various roles at IBM.

Most recently, Mr. Rechan was CEO at Halogen Software. He assumed that role roughly two years ago when then-CEO Paul Loucks stepped down, and held the position until Halogen was acquired by California-based Saba earlier this year in a deal valued at $293 million.

Halogen’s former chief financial officer Pete Low and chief product officer Karen Williams were both retained by Saba, alongside 90 per cent of the Ottawa firm’s staff.
