Sir Terry Matthews – you know, the serial entrepreneur and the force behind Wesley Clover, which helps fund L-Spark, Martello, Better Software and a whole bunch of incredibly successful startups in the region – is lending his guidance to Algonquin College.
Specifically, he’s co-chairing the school’s new innovation and entrepreneurship advisory panel with Algonquin’s president, Cheryl Jensen. The panel is being set up to advise on the school’s innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives as well as fundraising strategies, potential partnerships and the overall direction of the school.
Sir Matthews joins Eli Fathi, Ian Faris, Paul LaBarge, Michael Oster and several other big Ottawa tech names on the panel.

Ms. Jensen, who herself was recently named to the American National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship, said in a release that these panel members will give Algonquin students “the edge when it comes to turning their dreams into reality.”
The panel is part of a broader push towards an innovation agenda at the college. In February, the school launched Ignite AC, an entrepreneurship centre for students seeking mentorship and resources.
The release also teased a forthcoming announcement regarding a submitted proposal to the federal government to fund Algonquin’s Institute for Indigenous Entrepreneurship.
