You.i TV’s supercharged growth has prompted Startup Canada to name the Ottawa-based company’s co-founder and CEO Jason Flick as its Entrepreneur of the Year in Ontario.
You.i TV, a software developer focused on building TV anywhere platforms for major media companies, has seen exponential growth in the past year. Mr. Flick said the company has doubled in size every year for the past six years, except for the most recent 12 months. In that period, You.i quadrupled in revenue and staff, going from roughly 50 employees to 200.
The firm counts Shomi, Sony Crackle, Nickelodeon and YTV among some of its better-known clients.

“We’re kind of a mix of art and science,” Mr. Flick said, “where we have this video game like engine that uses all this great technology from the video game era, but brings it to apps. All of our apps are just these gorgeous, delightful things to play with.”
Mr. Flick cites the culture and atmosphere at You.i TV for helping to drive the success of the company.
“(We want) the company to feel the same as it was at 50 (employees), at 200,” Mr. Flick said.
In mid-September, You.i TV raised $15 million in venture capital funding.
According to the Startup Canada website, the Entrepreneur of the Year award is presented to individual entrepreneurs who have impacted Canadian entrepreneurship through exemplary activities and leadership of their startup companies.
