The CEO of Better Software Company, one of Ottawa’s hottest software-as-a-service startups, delivered a street smart speech Monday to an audience of 120 business people. He was speaking at Eggs ‘N Icons, a regular breakfast series co-organized by Ottawa Business Journal and Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Cody is a bonafide serial entrepreneur, having owned and sold businesses ranging from window washing, Halloween supplies and party rentals.
It was in due diligence while selling a company that a lawyer noticed the value of his custom-built software. Spurred on, Mr. Cody told the crowd that he applied to L-Spark, but was rejected. Convinced they made an error, he visited the incubator to request reconsideration. His persistence paid off and he was accepted.
Today, with close to 100 employees, Mr. Cody is setting his sights high, possibly as high as local tech darling Shopify. He says a billion-dollar company is the goal.
